Mitteldeutsche Zeitung (Central German Newspaper) reports about Finsterwalder

In a report from 6 December, Michael Tempel, editor at Mitteldeutsche Zeitung MZ (Halle/Saale), explains that the logistics company Finsterwalder has crossed the 800-employee mark this year and continues to grow.

Halle: Logistics company just keeps growing
HALLE (SAALE)/MZ. The logistics company Finsterwalder in Halle is continuing along its growth curve. Sven Köcke, head of marketing and sales, told the MZ that the company has crossed the 800-employee mark this year. In 2007, they had little more than half of their current staff. And their growth curve is expected to continue: “Our goal is to employ over 1,000 people in the medium term.” This is based on the company’s non-stop increase in contracts, for which an important role is played by the Finsterwalder branch at the industrial estate in Neustadt.
At the estate, located near the B80 dual carriageway, Finsterwalder began in early 2008 by renting the former warehouses of trade chains Kondi and Edeka. Today, these complexes alone rank among the most important cargo handling sites of the company, with more than 200 employees. From there, approximately 600 branches of a major DIY chain are supplied in Eastern Germany and Eastern Europe: The goods are first imported via the German seaports and then assembled according to the specific requirements of the individual DIY centres. Furthermore, Finsterwalder runs an interim storage facility in Neustadt for a chemist giant.
In the coming days the team will have even more to do than usual, since DIY centres will soon be enjoying their high season: “From December to May, Neustadt works to capacity,” says Köcke. In other months, however, it still has free capacities which are offered to clients. Köcke explains: “We are currently negotiating deals with several different companies.”
Apart from Neustadt, Finsterwalder (whose headquarters can be found at Delitzscher Straße) runs several other handling and storage sites at Grenzstraße and Reideburger Straße. There, too, the scale of goods being moved is to be further expanded. In recent years, Finsterwalder has invested millions in the development of those hubs and the expansion of its truck fleet.
