Groundbreaking at Finsterwalder Transport and Logistik GmbH
Halle/Saale, March 20, 2014. Klaus Finsterwalder and his son Michael together with Secretary of Commerce Hartmut Möllring, Minister of Transport Thomas Webel, Manager Wolf-Peter Peter and Project Manager Dr. Matthias Reinhardt broke ground this afternoon. This was the start for the first construction phase for the new building of the largest logistics center in Halle/Saale.
“Finsterwalder already belongs to the largest logistic companies and most important employers in Saxony-Anhalt,” said Secretary for Commerce Möllring. “The creation of the new logistics center is another highlight in the company’s success story. The investment worth millions is a positive signal for the city of Halle and for the whole local logistics industry."
“The state concentrates on efficient networking of traffic on the street, the tracks, on water and in the air. This is the key for good working transport chains," emphasizes Thomas Webel. Intelligent logistics needed investments like this one here in Halle so that middle Germany could use its chances in this field more successful.
Creating a master plan
Five years ago it all started with the purchase of arable land, now it’s being completed with building a new logistics center. In 2009, the company had signed a declaration of intent towards the city of Halle and, thus, committed itself to create a master plan and industrial areas. This was followed by four years of intensive investigations and assessment of the areas. Amongst other things, mappings of the common hamster and faunistic special examinations were made. Also part of the examination was traffic and noise related examinations. The company also committed to perform external environmental and compensational measurements. In cooperation with the city of Halle, the former DRK building in the Dölauer Strasse 91 could be knocked down including an intensive cleaning up of the debris, a renaturation of the more than 10,000 m² area could be done as well.
To do so, thousands of cubic meters of top soil from land of the building area were removed to be reused as ground for the reforestation of the DRK demolition area. The cleared area was reforested with an oak and hornbeam forest in accordance with the location.
On the building site there will be a two row tree alley stretching along the land boundary (Europachaussee & Grenzstrasse) including shade plants adding a more environment friendly image to the area.
New building of logistics space
Finsterwalder Transport and Logistik GmbH is officially starting with the construction works for the logistics building on this day. But the excavators already began preparing the soil a few weeks ago. The reason for this was the uncommon mild temperatures for this time of the year, so that the project planers preponed the actual building start. Construction works should be finished in fall 2014. Then, there will be a new ultra-modern logistics building, which is suitable for all packed goods.
Besides the actual storage work, Finsterwalder also employs personnel for additional work, so called added-value services, for the product of each of the respective customers.
The new building is equipped with a rack system for more than 30,000 pallets. The rack system is fed through induction lead industrial trucks. It’s always an impressive show when the lift cage of the rack feeder swirls up to 10.30 m height with the goods and the worker in just seconds to store the right pallet.
There will be an area for commissioning on an intermediate level over the 30 ramp doors, the so called mezzanine. The fact that this logistics section is located in the same area as the goods saves a lot of time in the process of commissioning, as the rack feeders can reach the mezzanine directly.
A WGK suitable industrial floor is an additional part of the technical equipment. An ESFR sprinkler system is also the standard.
The building is planned to be finished by September 2014. Then, there will be another ultra-modern logistics facility available for Finsterwalder.
