Green Logistics: Finsterwalder Group activates his first gas trucks

In search of environmentally friendly and future-oriented types of drive, Finsterwalder has opted for the use of gas.

After an extensive test with gas trucks, the company activates two gas trucks (IVECO) at their location in Türkheim.
The trucks are fueled with CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). CNG is natural gas or biogas compressed with 200-250 bar. Based on better combustion characteristics of gas compared to conventional diesel, the emissions, especially CO2, are significantly reduced. Furthermore the truck will primarily be fueled with biogas from waste on his planned route, So that it can be assumed of a virtually neutral CO2 operation of the truck.
In addition the noise pollution of the environment will be reduced by the gas engine up to 50% compared to diesel engines.
According to different studies and manufacturer's data, nobody has to be concerned about security as tanks and conduit systems are well protected. A general statement concerning security of gas engines in everydays traffic can be found on the website of the ADAC (German Automobile Club): www.adac.de/infotestrat/tanken-kraftstoffe-und-antrieb/alternative-kraftstoffe/erdgas/default.aspx. Additionally CNG is already used in cars and city buses for a long time, so that the security measure passed through intensive practical tests.
A shortcoming of the new vehicles is their range: currently the gas capacity of trucks only lasts for a distance of about 300 km, so that they can only be used for distribution or regular transport.
If the two vehicles will prove successful in the continuous operation, Finsterwalder plans with more gas-fueled trucks.
