Finsterwalder Advocates for a Balance Between Security and Mobility – The Schengen Dream Under Pressure

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Schengen – a milestone for European freedom and economic integration. All the more sobering: Since September 2024, Germany has reinstated internal border controls – with noticeable consequences. Truck drivers report traffic jams, trade flows are disrupted, and border regions feel slowed down.

💬 At Finsterwalder, we believe: Border controls within the EU must not become permanent. Temporarily in times of crisis? Yes – but only with clear justification, a defined timeframe, and full transparency. Because:

  • Mobility drives economic strength. Our logistics and supply chain systems only function when goods, machinery, and personnel can move freely across borders.
  • Responsibility matters. It’s about more than migration control – prosperity and sustainability goals within our societies also depend on open borders.
  • Digital solutions over bureaucracy. So-called “smart” controls are the right path: automated systems, data-driven border management, and risk-adaptive measures.

🔍 Our demands:

  1. Clear time limits – temporary controls only, no extension without a new justification.
  2. Dialogue with border regions – policymakers must involve local stakeholders early on.
  3. Efficiency through technology & cooperation – more digitalization, less manual delay.

📢 As an international logistics and transport company, Finsterwalder stands for a strong, secure, and open Europe. We support necessary security measures – but they must be targeted, proportionate, and clearly time-limited. The Schengen dream lives on – and we must defend it together.
