Through the eyes of the public, logistics is often reduced to “transport, goods handling and storage”. But it goes far beyond that. Logistics refers to the planning and controlling of all flows of information and goods between the customer and the supplier, but also within companies. In the partnership between the two companies from Halle, logistics provider Finsterwalder demonstrates its large range of services and solutions.
Finsterwalder Transport und Logistik GmbH has contributed a 2011 KALMAR DCD 250-12 forklift. Weighing in at almost 40 tonnes, it has a lifting power of 25 tonnes and is quite a rarity within this region of Central Germany. It is to be used in the KSB plant in Halle for the internal transportation of giant equipment, machinery and pumps as well as for the loading and unloading of heavy lorries. KSB staff have been given special training regarding the operation of the extraordinary mega forklift.
In the future, KSB will have the flexibility of using the mega forklift whenever it is needed, as the logistics service provider is based only several hundred metres from the KSB plant. “Thanks to this proximity, extremely short response times are made possible, thereby ensuring efficient internal logistics processes within KSB “, explains Christian Haag, plant manager and regional co-ordinator.
