Construction on a new logistics centre at the Hohenthurm location near Halle/Saale has been under way since May 2021. Without much fanfare, excavators have begun to demolish some of the old buildings of the former “Dampfkesselbau”. A modern 10,000 m² logistics centre is now being built on that same site, which will be operated by the Finsterwalder Group. On part of the total site area of over 100,000 m² a 14 m high building will be built. It will be suitable for storage of a wide variety of packaged goods — a so-called "multi-user building". For this reason the facility has 18 ramp gates. The technical features include a WGK 3-compliant industrial floor and an ESFR sprinkler system. Finsterwalder has been using the Hohenthurm logistics site for years. The increased requirements for certified and safe logistics space triggered the starting signal for the planning of a new property that can meet those desired high-quality industry standards. Completion of the property is slated for March 2022. Once finished, Finsterwalder will have an additional efficient logistics facility at its disposal, one that takes into account the latest environmental standards and generates low process costs by means of more efficient control. The tasks at the new location include above all the logistics activities that go hand in hand with outsourcing projects for industry, but also the operation of logistical interfaces. The majority of the services in the new facility will be logistics and associated services.
